About Mariposa

The doctor who built this for you.

Dr. Julie Grimes watched too many women be told “you’re fine, it’s just aging”, and decided the answer wasn’t another referral. It was a clinic that does nothing but this.

Why Mariposa exists

It started with the one patient she couldn’t forgive herself for: her mom.

In 2002, the Women’s Health Initiative headlines told the world that hormone therapy was dangerous, and almost overnight, hormone treatment for menopause collapsed. Prescriptions dropped sharply within a year. That same season, Dr. Julie Grimes’s mother was entering menopause, and she asked her daughter, the doctor, what to do.

“Absolutely not,” Dr. Julie told her. It was the standard of care. It was what the science of that moment said. And she now believes it was the wrong advice, for her mother, and for millions of women whose doctors said the same thing.

In the years since, the research has been substantially re-examined: for most women near the start of menopause, the risks were overstated, and the benefits were quietly lost. Her mom spent a decade managing symptoms that could have been treated. So did a generation.

Mariposa is what Dr. Julie built with that lesson: a clinic focused entirely on menopause, with hormones, metabolism, nutrition, sleep, and mind under one roof, where the evidence is current, the visit is a real conversation, and no woman is sent home with a shrug.

“You’re not crazy, you’re not broken, and you’re not alone. What’s happening to you is real, and it’s treatable.”
Bigger than a clinic

This is a movement disguised as a medical practice.

Six thousand women reach menopause every day in the U.S. Mariposa exists to change what they’re offered, starting in Huntsville, and growing into a community, events, education, and resources for the people who love them.
